- amateur prospects in the
- nation. He hit 20 homers and set a school
- record with a blistering .478 batting average.
- Then the Mariners came calling. Junior
- breezed through the minor league ranks,
- and made it to the big time in 1989, ripping
- a double in his first major league at-bat. In
- Seattle, he hit a home run in his first plate
- appearance in front of the home crowd.
